WHISKEY DEL BAC LEVELS UP: MARK A. VIERTHALER NAMED MASTER DISTILLER & BLENDER + DIRECTOR OF DISTILLERY OPERATIONS

TUCSON, Ariz., Feb. 4, 2024 — If you've ever had a sip of Whiskey Del Bac’s smoky, smooth, and oh-so-Tucson whiskey, you’ve tasted the craftsmanship of Mark A. Vierthaler. Now, the man behind the magic is stepping up in a big way! Whiskey Del Bac, the homegrown powerhouse of mesquited American single malts, has officially promoted Vierthaler to Master Distiller & Blender and Director of Distillery Operations.

“There wasn’t enough room on the business card for everything Mark does,” joked CEO Paul Winandy. “So, we settled on this title. Honestly, it still doesn’t capture all that he brings to the table.”

Vierthaler has been with Whiskey Del Bac since 2021, leading the charge in distillation and crafting some of the most award-winning whiskeys to come out of the Southwest. Under his leadership, Whiskey Del Bac’s single malts have consistently scored 90+ ratings, and his work on Sentinel of The Desert™ Straight Rye Whiskey earned a stellar 94-point rating.

“I’m incredibly humbled,” Vierthaler shared. “Stephen and Amanda Paul built something truly special here—whiskeys that tell a story of place. Getting to be part of that and help shape the future? It’s an absolute honor.”

In his expanded role, Vierthaler is taking on full oversight of the distillery—from new product development to the tasting room and events, making sure every pour and every tour embodies the heart and soul of Whiskey Del Bac.

“Mark’s palate, his deep knowledge of distilling, and his dedication to quality have taken Whiskey Del Bac to another level,” said co-founder Stephen Paul. “But beyond that, his understanding of our sense of place is what truly sets him apart. We’re lucky to have him leading the way.”
